About us
The Granite Mountain Archers have been loosing arrows in Prescott since 1978. The Club centers its activities on the Granite Mountain Archery Range, located in the pines and chaparral north of Willow Lake and on the west side of the famed Granite Dells, in Prescott, Arizona. The range sits on approximately 64 acres of Prescott City Park land, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the Arizona National Guard. The Club historically maintains a roster of approximately 70 members.
The terrain on the range is challenging, offering an archer, uphill, downhill, and level shooting, as well as vegetation obstructions. Our practice range provides opportunities to shoot from 10 feet to 80 yards at 5 yard intervals; with paper tuning frames and a chronograph. The range has 2 target courses of 14 targets each and two 14 target 3D courses. We are building a tower for those folks interested in shooting from tree stands.
We currently hold six shoots during the year. The Silver Arrow is a two day, 3-D shoot in the Spring, followed by four summer 3-D shoots; the Outlaw, Van Clark, GMA and the Big Game Shoot. These are all 2 day events and are 3-D. The last shoot of the year, “Frost on the Pumpkin,” is a one day, “Any weather” 3-D shoot.
The range has a complete kitchen, restrooms for men and women, and a play area for the archers of the future. During our shoots, limited camping is available on the range.
GMA is a working club but we have three tiers of participation. The members do all of the work that is required to hold shoots, maintain and improve the range and maintain the physical plant; however, we recognize that some folks do not have the opportunity to work on the range. For those folks we offer a membership that allows access to the range, but at an increased dues schedule. For the members that work, duties include, but are not limited to, range monitoring, tournament setup, club meetings, target upkeep, and work parties. With the key to the club, all members have access to the kitchen and restroom's, the member 3D shed, all 4 ranges, practice range, archery tools, and much more, not to mention the years of combined experience all in a natural setting.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Granite Mountain Archers “is to join together, in good fellowship, dedicated archers of the Prescott area who are interested in competitive archery and bow hunting, and who are enthusiastic in their support of organized archery.” Further, the Club is interested in promoting archery to all people that have an interest in joining the fraternity of archers. Our members have a tremendous knowledge base and skill level to help beginning archers become “dedicated archers” for recreation, competition or hunting. Our club is affiliated with the National Field Archery Association, the Arizona Bowhunters & Field Archery Association and affiliated clubs throughout Arizona. This affiliation provides members with a network of archery contacts and shoots held though-out the State.
